blogworthy

My question for today is, how do you judge what is blogworthy:ie: criteria?! I guess that anything releveant to your blogsubject would be,of course, but how about the tangential stuff?

Tangential, what could be tangential to sublimation? I can't help but think of that MTV show with the bubbles, where they had topic for each show but then they used the topic to go off on tangents, so that anything that had even the slightest relevance, and I do mean slightest, we're added and commented on until everything they said connected in a kind full circle zen way, that show was pretty funny at times.

The reason for my question, and my interest in that show, is this: I was at a BBQ party for Gryphen, a friend's baby was having a first birthday, and I overheard a conversation where some people were talking about the baby genius action figures. I guess I have only heard a small amount of the conversation, so (I am not sure what these action figures are, but I have seen others, they're kind of funny,) anyway, I gathered enough from the conversation that these action figures are supposed to introduce historical genius figures in a way a baby can comprehend,( they can look, handle and suck on thier heads) so far they had Baby Einstien,Baby Gandhi, Baby Freud. And what got my attention was that the Baby Freud was the one that was questioned and controversial, well, you know, those SEX theories of his.....

(insert Editorial comment here) WOW!!! How far we have come, amazing that it is the 21 st century and his "sex theories " are still an issue when it comes to action figures and little kids. What is it about Freud? I guess people don't want to have thier savage selves revealed or something. One thing that always stands out,for me when it comes to Freud, is his thoughts about "the thin veneer of civilization" and that people are particularly touchy when it comes to thier sexual nature/practices....

few and far between

I wish I didn't feel that I have to apologize every time I came here. Because, after all, who am I apologizing to anyway? Nobody comments,or comes knocking on my door, even though I have sent out notices directing people to my blogsite, I need feedback, waaaahhh....
OK, I know I am not in the big league blogger club as yet but I do think about blogworthy topics and I know I procrastinate plenty about blogging itself. I think it's like exercise, you put it off for a number of reasons but once you get into it, it feels real good and you can't imagine why you put it off at all or for so long!!
I think it might be list fatigue, so many things on a list to look at that finally you refuse to even look at your list, and, doh, blogging was the next thing on my list.
That's what this blogspot is about though, postponement and subverting energies, so, see? I am on topic!

sub sub sub,blip

Oh my God, did I ever fall down on this daily blogging idea! Sorry folks, I haven't forgotten my blog but got distracted by Art A Whirl and that's all there is to it.
I want to tell you tho,
I have come across some very interesting information on neurasthenia: a 19th century disease (and somewhat of a theory of the American culture) based on "nerve economy", which affected those of a sensitive refined nature (ie: artists, poets, virgins and intellectuals) as well as the reprobate elements that dissipate on a regular basis.(more on that later) There is a real dialectic going on there.
the Bookref is "American Nervousness 1903 " by Tom Lutz. c.1991 Cornell University Press
The basic theory is that everyone has a "nerve force" which is subject to a strict bodily economy, if you use it in work or procreation, you can be "successful" (probably rational and responsible too) ,and the energy/force is productive and reinvested, but if you use it in a "unproductive" way,ie: gambling, vices, spillage of the seed (& you Know what that is) you will become dissapated and slide toward decadence, and then you become an artist,HA!
No,really! It's easy to see where our cultures attitudes toward Art came from, I mean, attitudes that people still have, like "You can't make a living doing that, can you?" aha, you see the connection. I only have notes from the introduction chapter,so please take that into consideration. I want to get further into this, but I have to find the book again. It is a gem, and I really couldn't help seeing it's context within sublimation,as well. After all, sublimation was a 19th c. construct as well. I'll end there because I don't have a strong enough argumemt to connect all that there is
to connect, but I feel like I am on a trail of breadcrumbs that may result in an inspired essay some day. I will say this, he wrote of a distrust of modernity and I think that is also present on our postmodern culture. So there...hope I made up for lost time.

every other day

Well, So I'm not a daily blogger, how about every other day? I try so hard to assuage my guilt,
I'm reading about writing, mainly, "The Story behind the Story" 25 writers present a story and the story about how they came to write it,very helpful and entertaining way to learn the craft. Most of my time today has been  occupied with preparing for the Art-A-Whirl, an annual art studio crawl that takes place all over NE Mpls, and some in S.E. Mpls. It's next weekend so I am pretty busy,
So if you live in the Twin Cities area, and want to check out my new stuff, keep your eye on this blog for more info, or see my page on the NEMAA website:

I'll be back.....

new discovery

I have discovered a new author that I like, Jonis Agee! I have been reading "The River Wife" for the last few days and it is very interesting! It's about a woman who discovers some diaries from the early 19th c. written  by a woman who lived in Missouri and married (or maybe it was common law) a French Trapper! This is a very exciting adventure novel about what it would be like to survive an earthquake (in Missouri? hmmm...) and move on. Wow, I really like it. I will be reading this past the due date, I'll tell you. I love how some books/stories just pick you up and carry you.  You don't exactly escape ,in the usual sense, but become involved in something beyond yourself and your life! I will be looking for more of her work, that's for sure.
I think reading is one way to sublimate creative energy,to get some satisfaction and actually learn something you wouldn't discovered otherwise, like, did you imagine that there were earthquakes in Missouri?

"swine" a.k.a.nafta flu

Hi, I was just reading today, about how, according to narconews*, swine flu was more than likely caused by a great big pork producer from the US of A, who took operations down to a poor region in Mexico, so they wouldn't have to worry about any pesky lawsuits.probably, ever again concerning their unregulated dumping operations.
here's my source :* http://narconews.com/Issue57/article3512.html

not really such a shocker,imho,
first comes intense & shameless greed, then the plagues, but what about that old adage about intelligence and the repeating of the same mistakes? What happened to common sense or justice?  How many of these greedy bastards do we surrender our world to so they can carelessly destroy it, environmentally, healthwise and on and on? I don't mean to be naive but is the world really gonna turn to be that medieval? If so,I say, hey, a pox on pork producers, burn me, I'm a witch.

a little further down the road

Well, now that the election is over, there really seems to be a new optimism in the air since our sensible guy, Obama, won!!
everybody seems to be thinking somewhat the same. We may have to wait for a while and work hard for a change, but it seems that the administration will make more sense now. And that is half the battle I think.
As Jon Stewart put it last night, "I feel like he speaks to my perceptual level" or something along that line. It's so comforting when you feel like there is actually someone in power who's listening and not just spouting sound bites.
Now that there is that, the earth feels so much firmer under the feet! Give the people what they want, oh, and that's another phenomenon, the collective motivation to vote was so incredible this time, given how results came in so fast, there seemed such a strong determination that it carried across the country! Jeez, I think I have a moistening around the eyes just thinking about it. I sincerely feel patriotic, now that things make sense.
I am also making connections about my story from the reading that I have been doing, and I am going to make a big effort to go to a writing group tommorow, run it by them. It's not hard to see why the writing advice given most often is to read, read, read, you pick up alot, consciously and unconsciously and from very unsuspected places. For example, the other day, I was reading "Waiting for the Barbarians" (J.M.Coetzee) and got a great sense description for my story. No spoilers here but it had such an impact. I knew instinctively that it was a clue to what I was getting at in my story, something akin to choppy kind of shots in a film. Also, I just really love Coetzee, just when I might be losing interest, he zaps me with a beautiful description or some suspense, he knows how to keep ya coming back for more. And I hope I can start to get subscribers to my blog soon, like to have some stirring dialogue about, art, life, art and life, and, of course, sublimation. I think I may have to research sublimation and put a few searching questions out there for people to respond to. And I promise to blog more often.
